MORGANTON, N.C. — In the season series finale, the Morganton Aggies defeated the Tennessee Tornado 6-4 last night at Shuey Field.
Frank Szczepanik took the loss for Tennessee, dropping to 0-2 after only an inning of work in which four earned runs scored, while Jake Loye improved to 2-1 on the mound for the Aggies. After falling behind 6-0, the Tornado mounted a valiant comeback, as Bart Roark went 3-3 and Jay Davis reached base five times as he was hit by a pitch, walked twice and went 2-2 in addition.
Tennessee (23-13) remains in first place, since the Aggies (21-18) handed the Lake Norman Copperheads two losses Sunday by an aggregate score of 22-4 in a double-header. Lake Norman (23-15) also lost at Spartanburg last night, 7-1, leaving a one-game gap for the Tornado.
Tennessee makes one more stop on their road swing Friday as they make up a July 17 rainout at the Carolina Chaos at 7 p.m. They return home Saturday for the season finale and makeup of Sunday’s games against Spartanburg.
